Site Assistant Roles – St. Mark’s CE School
We are a vibrant faith-based learning community dedicated to enabling every child to thrive through exceptional educational opportunities. We are currently looking for two passionate, proactive individuals to join our expanding team as Site Assistants, who will support the daily operations, security, cleanliness, and grounds maintenance of our school premises.
Our extensive landscapes and premises lay the foundation for our daily operations and community identity.
Post Overview & Purpose
These positions are vital to supporting the Site Manager and Deputy Site Manager in maintaining the school environment’s security, cleanliness, landscaping, and environmental upkeep. A defining focus for this role is premium grounds maintenance, ensuring outdoor spaces remain pristine, safe, and inspiring for pupils and staff.
Core Focus Areas
1. Landscape and Grounds Maintenance
With an extensive landscape, the outdoor areas require steady, high-standard maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
- Horticultural upkeep:
- Lawn care, hedge trimming, decorative borders, and planting beds
- Seasonal tasks, including leaf clearing and storm remediation
- Machinery operations:
- Safe handling and maintenance of commercial-grade equipment (lawnmowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, leaf blowers)
- Environmental cleanliness:
- Daily clearing of drains, gullies, and pathways
- Preventing blockages to maintain a crisp, orderly appearance
- Seasonal stewardship:
- Winter gritting, snow clearing, and ensuring safety during inclement weather
2. Buildings, Safety & Structural Integrity
Beyond grounds, the Assistant Site Team ensures the building estate’s security, functionality, and day-to-day upkeep, including:

- Site security:
- Authorised key holder and daily opening/lock-up duties
- Conducting security sweeps for vandalism or alarms during out-of-hours
- Repairs and maintenance:
- Minor DIY, carpentry, and fixture installations
- Holiday downtime Painting/redecoration projects
- Utilities support:
- Monitoring heating, lighting, ventilation, and filtration
- Daily checks to ensure operational efficiency
- Event support:
- Assisting with large-scale setup for school events, performances, and relocations of heavy items

Person Specification
Education & Certification
- GCSE English & Mathematics (Grade C/4 or equivalent)—good literacy/numeracy baseline.
- Willingness to complete mandatory health & safety + trade certifications as part of the training pathway.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Grounds maintenance & landscaping (horticulture, agricultural labour, garden/B&B work).
- Practical DIY skills—carpentry, painting, repairs, or general property maintenance.
- Proficient with tools & machinery—str implemented in at speed.
- Ability to work independently on-site with minimal supervision.
