Site Civil Engineer
Site Civil Engineer £55,000 - £70,000 Travel to Hinckley Point required
Your Role
At Capgemini Engineering, we are proud to be at the forefront of some of the most technically demanding and societally critical infrastructure projects in the world. As part of our growing nuclear engineering capability in the UK, you will join a team of highly skilled engineers delivering complex, safety-critical structures at one of Europe's largest and most significant energy projects — Hinkley Point C. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of civil engineering excellence, nuclear safety culture, and cutting-edge construction methodology, contributing directly to the UK's clean energy future.
As a Site Civil Engineer at Hinkley Point C, you will be embedded on-site and play a central role in the delivery of critical nuclear structures, including fuel pools, tanks, liners, and sumps. Working within a highly regulated and safety-focused environment, you will bridge the gap between design intent and physical construction, ensuring that every element of the build meets the stringent quality, compliance, and performance standards required of nuclear infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading on-site construction and engineering activities for reinforced concrete structures including fuel pools, tanks, and sumps — ensuring all works are executed in strict accordance with approved designs, technical specifications, and nuclear quality standards, while actively monitoring site progress to support safe, compliant, and timely delivery
- Overseeing the installation of stainless steel liners within concrete structures, including full supervision of welding activities — reviewing welding procedures, qualifications, and inspection and test records (including NDT where applicable), and ensuring full traceability and compliance with applicable nuclear codes and standards throughout
- Ensuring technical compliance across all structural elements, verifying that designs and completed works satisfy demanding performance requirements including pressure resistance, seismic performance, and leak-tightness, as well as supporting implementation of requirements relating to radiation protection and nuclear safety classification
- Managing technical queries, RFIs, and non-conformance reports (NCRs) with rigour and timeliness — supporting root cause analysis, driving corrective actions to resolution, and maintaining a close liaison with design and engineering teams to ensure site issues are resolved efficiently and without impact to programme or quality
- Maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance and documentation, reviewing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), verifying that hold points and quality controls are properly observed, ensuring full traceability of all construction works, and actively supporting audits and regulatory inspections as required
- Coordinating across multiple technical and project interfaces, working closely with civil and mechanical contractors, subcontractors, design teams, and quality and safety functions — participating in coordination meetings and ensuring consistent technical alignment across all disciplines involved in the delivery of nuclear structures
- Contributing to a strong nuclear safety culture on site, promoting awareness of nuclear safety principles among site teams, supporting the implementation of safety-critical procedures, and ensuring that all activities reflect the values and behaviours expected within a highly regulated nuclear environment

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your Profile
We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented civil engineer with proven experience delivering complex structures in nuclear or similarly regulated environments. You will bring both technical depth and the communication skills needed to operate effectively across a wide range of project stakeholders.
- A degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent discipline), combined with a minimum of 5 years' experience in site-based civil engineering roles, ideally on large-scale infrastructure or nuclear projects — with direct experience of reinforced concrete construction and structural installation being essential
- Hands-on experience with stainless steel liner systems and welding coordination or inspection, ideally within nuclear fuel pools, containment structures, or similarly demanding containment applications, supported by a strong working knowledge of relevant welding standards, NDT methods, and quality control processes
- Solid understanding of nuclear or highly regulated construction environments, including familiarity with nuclear safety culture, safety classification systems, seismic and pressure design requirements, and the regulatory frameworks governing construction activities on nuclear-licensed sites
- Proven ability to manage technical documentation processes including NCRs, RFIs, TQs, and ITPs — with a methodical, detail-oriented approach to quality assurance and a track record of maintaining full traceability in a compliance-driven environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to liaise effectively across contractors, subcontractors, designers, safety teams, and client representatives — combined with a collaborative mindset, sound problem-solving ability, and the resilience to perform under pressure in a demanding, fast-paced site environment
- If 75%+ of the criteria are met, then your application still may be considered as training and up-skilling will be provided to the right candidates.
