Site Engineer – Water Infrastructure Project
About the Role
Murphy is recruiting for a Site Engineer to join their growing Infrastructure team, delivering a major water infrastructure project in partnership with United Utilities, as part of the AMP8 Programme.
Murphy is a trusted partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, supporting contracts with Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann. Over 25 facilities operate under full DBOM (Design, Build, Operate, Maintain) contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and collaborate with your team to deliver projects safely, on programme, and to budget with a right first time approach
- Ensure dimensional control for all self-delivery and subcontracted works, including:
- Below-ground pipework
- Reinforced concrete slabs and structures
- Piling and temporary works
- Verify that installation meets completed specifications and design standards, while:
- Documenting all civil construction activities in an indexed format for fit-to-finish compliance
- Reviewing design documentation and standards before works begin
- Troubleshoot technical issues as necessary and escalate unresolved matters to Senior Engineers
- Conduct site surveys for design refinement, ensuring clear communication in presentations
- Maintain safety and environmental compliance, including adherence to:
- RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements)
- HSG47/GS6 control measures (to avoid damaging existing services)
- Support the growth of Emerging Talent and fostering professional development
- Comply with equipment calibration, maintenance, and inspection procedures
- Ensure all team members have up-to-date, clear instructions to perform their duties effectively
- Manage material take-offs, requisitions, and procurement liaison with supply chains
- Track and document site activities in daily diaries

Key Skills & Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant experience in civil engineering or construction
- A Civil Engineering qualification at Level 3 or above
- Experience in water industry projects (frontier advantage, though other sectors considered)
- Ability to:
- Communicate technical concepts, both verbally and in writing, to stakeholders
- Apply collaborative problem-solving within a team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Project, etc.)
- Comprehensive safety awareness and compliance knowledge
