Site Engineer

About the Role

Balfour Beatty is seeking dedicated and skilled Site Engineer to join our Power T&D Team, based in Norwich.


Programme Overview

Join our Power T&D business as a Site Engineer and benefit from our comprehensive 13-week Upskilling Programme, designed to accelerate professional growth and provide the latest industry competencies. The structured programme includes:

  • Core and mandatory training covering:
    • Health and safety
    • First aid
    • Digital skills
  • Advanced modules, including:
    • Project management
    • Technical documentation
    • Environmental sustainability
    • Commercial awareness
  • Hands-on learning, such as:
    • Immersive technical sessions
    • Exposure to cutting-edge digital tools
    • Practical experience in supervising complex site operations, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards

The programme also includes project shadowing and concludes with a final capability assessment, preparing you to lead teams on live projects.

You’ll develop key skills in:

  • Leadership
  • Planning
  • Incident response
  • Stakeholder communication

By the end, you’ll be fully prepared to take on a Site Engineer role—with a clear trajectory for ongoing career progression in Power T&D.

Your key duties include:

  • Collaborating closely with the Project Manager and wider team.
  • Interpreting technical solutions and drawings.
  • Briefing delivery teams safely and efficiently.
  • Ensuring work is delivered right first time, adhering to safety, quality, and budgetary standards.
  • Monitoring progress, maintaining accurate project records.
  • Supporting reporting and reviews.
  • Coordinating with:
    • Internal teams
    • Subcontractors
    • Stakeholders
  • Ensuring projects stay on track regarding programme, cost, quality, and safety.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • Full valid UK driving licence.

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Construction/engineering environment experience.
  • Ability to implement safe systems of work and manage risks/change.
  • Strong grasp of project delivery, technical documentation, and site coordination.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to:
    • Build trust at all levels.
    • Influence teams and stakeholders.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused mindset, able to thrive under pressure.
  • Interpersonal and collaborative skills; flexible adaptability useful.
  • Awareness of commercial/contractual considerations.
  • Confidence using Microsoft 365.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and continuous personal development.

Recommended Certifications

  • CSCS and SSSTS cards (or equivalent), or currently working toward them.
