Site Engineer

Senior Construction Engineer – Setting-Out & Temporary Works (Full Time)

About the Role

John Sisk & Son are a family-owned, international construction company dedicated to delivering trust, certainty, and value while driving change. As a Senior Construction Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring precision setting-out, dimensional control, and temporary works compliance on behalf of clients.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Setting out works against project drawings, specifications, and site surveys, while maintaining strict adherence to tolerances to minimise quality risks and optimise floor space.
  • Working closely with project planners to align construction programmes with supply chain timelines.
  • Ensuring compliance with Sisk Q10 standards through meticulous quality control.
  • Supporting inspection and test plans (ITP) and gathering contractual evidence from suppliers and trade partners.
  • Resolving technical queries with employer representatives, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

The role operates within Company Standard Procedures and adheres to the Sisk Safety Statement/Policy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Setting-out & Site Coordination:
    • Sets out all construction works in strict alignment with contract drawings, specifications, and site data.
    • Ensures accurate dimensional controls without compromising design intent or spatial efficiencies.
    • Oversees supplier on-site delivery progress and/or plant nodes.
  • Programme & Supplier Coordination:
    • Liaises with project planners to ensure timely construction sequencing.
    • Verifies the quality of delivered materials, components, or work-in-progress against technical requirements.
  • Quality, Safety & Administration:
    • Checks compliance with international standards and Sisk Q10 procedures.
    • Adheres to the Sisk Safety Statement and maintains up-to-date compliance records.
    • Inputs into IT Plans/Records, auditing supply chain evidence for technical deliverables.
    • Raises RFIs and negotiates technical resolutions with internal clients, subcontractors, and authorities.
    • Conducts quality control and record-keeping as defined in project Method Statements and Inspection & Test Plans.
    • Acts as the Control of Temporary Works (CTW) Coordinator on-site (preferable).

Core Requirements

Experience & Competency

  • 3+ years’ post-qualification experience in construction engineering, preferably in a project-based organisation.
  • Technical understanding of civil/structural works and construction methodologies.
  • Verbal & written articulation skills to deliver objective, persuasive technical documentation.
  • Independence and professional influence—must engage constructively with all stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Working knowledge of Control of Temporary Works (CTW) (eligibility to act as the site TWC Coordinator is advantageous).
  • Proven ability to make decision-making under pressure while adhering to project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Degree or BTEC Diploma in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering (challenging qualification considered).
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or equivalent qualification.
  • MSIC (Manual Handling Operations Certificate) certification.
  • First Aid Procedures and Lifting Operations Certification.
  • Construction Temporary Works Coordinator Training (CTWC).
  • Chartered status (or working towards) with Engineers Ireland or ICE.
