Site Engineer - Plymouth, UK

Contract - 5 months | IR35 - Inside. Rates - Negotiable.

Belcan is working with a key delivery partner on one of the UK's most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects, and they're looking to bring in a motivated Site Engineer to join their onsite team in Plymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity for a developing Site Engineer to gain hands-on experience within a collaborative, high-performing environment where safety, quality, and innovation are at the forefront.

Overview

As a Site Engineer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring construction activities are completed safely, accurately, and in line with project specifications. Acting as a key liaison within the site management team, you'll help oversee daily operations, coordinate subcontractors, and provide technical support to keep works running smoothly from start to finish. You'll work closely with Construction Managers, Site Managers, and wider delivery teams, ensuring compliance with site procedures, health & safety standards, and regulatory requirements. You'll also support documentation, maintain site records, and contribute to project planning and risk management processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, and site procedures while coordinating closely with site teams and subcontractors.
  • Support the development and review of Safe Systems of Work, RAMS, and permits, and ensure all site activities are recorded through diaries, schedules, and reports.
  • Assist in managing site surveys, reviewing drawings, raising technical queries, and maintaining CAD drawings.
  • Help coordinate meetings, manage risk registers, and provide oversight of site activities to ensure quality and programme targets are met.

Requirements

Essential:

  • 0-2+ years' experience as a Site Engineer or within a similar construction role.
  • Degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • CSCS card and SMSTS or IOSH certification.
  • Strong understanding of construction techniques and health & safety standards.
  • IT proficiency including MS Office and basic CAD.

Desirable:

  • Experience with BIM tools (Autodesk, Bentley).
  • Knowledge of planning tools such as P6 or Aphex.
  • Understanding of construction legislation (e.g., HSAWA, CDM).
  • Exposure to NEC contracts or regulated environments.
  • Project management training (APM, Prince2).
