Site Engineer- West Cumbria

Description
At Careys, we’re proud to deliver some of the most complex and high-profile civil engineering projects across the UK. We are now looking for a Site Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality and technically excellent work on site.

What you will do:
- Carry out accurate setting out using a variety of surveying equipment.
- Check levels, dimensions and tolerances to ensure work is completed correctly.
- Support the Senior Engineer in resolving technical queries and RFIs.
- Review drawings, raise issues early, and help ensure work is buildable and compliant.
- Work closely with Site Managers and Supervisors to plan and sequence works.
- Provide clear construction information to the workforce, including sketches and mark-ups.
- Monitor progress and provide input into short-term planning.
- Maintain accurate as-built records and support digital deliverables.
- Help prepare Inspection & Test Plans and carry out quality checks on site.
- Identify issues early and support the resolution of non-conformances.
- Carry out material checks and ensure correct testing and sampling procedures.
- Assist with take-offs and scheduling of key materials such as drainage, reinforcement and waterbars.
- Complete temporary works inspections and support simple temporary works designs.
- Supervise Apprentice and Graduate Engineers, offering day-to-day guidance.
- Work closely with subcontractors and suppliers to support safe and efficient delivery.
- Build strong relationships internally and externally to keep information flowing.

What You Will Bring:
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Solid civil engineering knowledge with the ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
- Experience using digital tools, including AutoCAD/BricsCAD.
- Confident surveying and setting-out skills.
- Experience in inspection, testing and quality assurance of construction materials.
- 4+ years’ experience on major civil engineering projects (infrastructure, rail, highways or utilities).
- HNC or above in Civil or Structural Engineering.
