The role

As Site Investigator, you'll be at the heart of maintaining and enhancing safety, compliance and operational excellence across one of the UK's most important defence and nuclear engineering environments. Working within the Safety & Assurance function and the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Investigation Team, you'll lead investigations into significant operational events, helping identify lessons, improve performance and prevent future incidents.

This is a unique opportunity to influence safety culture, drive organisational learning and contribute to the continued safe operation of critical national infrastructure. You'll work alongside technical specialists, operational teams and senior stakeholders while developing your expertise within a highly regulated and fascinating environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll will be required to:

  • Lead and support investigations into events of varying complexity and severity across the Devonport site.
  • Produce high-quality investigation reports that identify causal factors, organisational vulnerabilities and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide expert guidance, coaching and mentoring to investigators and stakeholders across the business.
  • Support investigation governance, assurance activities and regulatory engagement to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Promote organisational learning by sharing lessons identified and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

This role is full-time, 35 hours per week and based onsite at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Site Investigator:

  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, nuclear site licence conditions, nuclear safety cases and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience leading independent investigations and producing robust, evidence-based reports.
  • Experience applying Human Organisational Performance and human performance principles to identify learning and improvement opportunities.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and mentoring skills, with the confidence to influence and challenge constructively.

Qualifications for the Site Investigator:

Essential:

  • TOPSET Senior Investigator qualification.
  • TOPSET Licensed Tutor qualification.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Training in Human Organisational Performance Principles and Human Factors Fundamentals.
  • Submarine Product Safety Awareness training.

Advantageous:

  • Experience using investigation and safety management systems, including SharePoint and Synergi Life.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
