Site Manager

Head of Site Management (Site Manager) – Hillstone Junior & Infant School

Hillstone Primary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

About the Role

The successful candidate will make a major contribution to the management and administration of the Academy site and buildings, ensuring the physical resources that support staff and enable a high-quality education are maintained.

This role will work closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager to:

  • Prepare premises aspects of the annual budget
  • Manage day-to-day maintenance, cleaning, and janitorial services within the given budget

Core Duties & Responsibilities

The Site Manager will oversee:

Property & Site Management

  • Day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of buildings, furniture, and grounds
  • Monitors and manages maintenance and decoration to maintain a safe and presentable environment
  • Coordinates security arrangements, including access control for authorised personnel
  • Ensures compliance with statutory testing requirements

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Performs practical hands-on repairs (incidental maintenance, lighting installations, minor decorating)
  • Maintains low-risk security, including gates, windows, lighting, and heatinging systems
  • Fire safety inspections and compliance with Health & Safety at Work Act requirements

Building & Grounds Upkeep

  • Regular premises checks (ventilation, waste clearance, litter management)
  • Maintains indoor and outdoor cleanliness (NYM tasks when staff unavailable)
  • Enforces Litter & Hygiene policies, including bin collections, dustbin areas, and spillages

Operational & Administrative Tasks

  • Manages cleaning staff, ensuring high standards and effective oversight
  • Controls energy usage (heating, hot water, lighting) and monitors consumption trends
  • Stores and distributes materials, equipment, and supplies as required
  • Key management system (registers, lockups, security protocols)
  • Works with contractors, directing and inspecting works as needed

Incident & Emergency Response

  • Detects and rectifies hazards (unlocked doors, loose tiles, power non-compliance)
  • Takes appropriate action (or reports) for health and safety/coded workplace defects
  • Ensures emergency procedures (tables/desk setups for bodies/snow events)
  • Fire drills, flood incidents, or unauthorised access (Anyone personnel actions)

Controlled Duties (Not Directly Managed by Site Manager)

  • Work at height with potential for stepladder use (must adhere to guidelines)

Supporting Duties

  • Normal supervisory duties (encourage attendance, positive morale, problem resolution)
  • Management of own workload, ensuring timeliness and efficiency
  • Issuing of absent cleaners’ rosters/miscal tasks (as per governance)

Key Performing Standards Apply:

  • Full compliance with all policies, procedures and the safeguarding school regulations.

Amongst the day-to-day responsibility (business expenditure) of the Site Manager, the School Business Manager will ensure that all sites comply with vector importance, school values, and responsibilities.
