Help us create a better future, quicker! At ScottishPower, our people are the driving force behind everything we achieve. Their energy, expertise and ambition power our success — and we’re now looking for individuals who share that passion to help shape the future of our Transmission business within SP Energy Networks.

With major investment underway and some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in our history, our Transmission teams are delivering essential upgrades that will transform how energy is transmitted across the South of Scotland. From large-scale network developments to future-focused expansion, the work you’ll be part of will play a vital role in enabling a cleaner, greener energy system.

As a Site Manager (Overhead Lines), you’ll join a multi-disciplined team responsible for the construction of new build, replacement, refurbishment and major overhead line projects. You’ll be working as part of a team committed to delivering high-profile construction projects safely and efficiently.

Acting as the primary on-site representative, you’ll take ownership of site activities and provide technical support and guidance throughout the overhead line construction phase.

What you’ll be doing

  • Monitor and manage contractor programmes in line with overall project delivery timelines
  • Oversee the construction and commissioning of overhead line projects
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations, and environmental standards
  • Drive quality and environmental performance, ensuring mitigation measures are implemented and monitored
  • Support the delivery of works across distribution and transmission networks

What You’ll Bring

You’ll thrive in a contractor-led environment and be motivated by leading teams to deliver high-quality outcomes. Your ability to influence, challenge and collaborate will be key to success in this role. We’re open to candidates from a range of backgrounds within overhead lines and utilities.

You might already be a Site Manager, or be looking to step up from a hands-on or supervisory role. We’d be keen to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience working on overhead line or transmission projects, ideally within utilities or infrastructure
  • Exposure to projects across distribution and/or transmission networks (11kV – 400kV)
  • Experience on higher voltage works (132kV, 275kV or 400kV) would be advantageous, but not essential
  • A good understanding of overhead line construction, maintenance or commissioning activities (e.g. foundations, pole/tower erection, stringing or reconductoring)
  • Experience working within a DNO, utilities, or infrastructure environment
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations, site safety and temporary works
  • Experience reviewing, approving or working with RAMS and permit systems
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors and site team

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
