Job Description
At Costain our Energy Sector helps our customers transition to clean energy, while providing practical solutions to improve the efficiency, sustainability and resilience of existing infrastructure. We focus on delivering engineering, construction and digital solutions to support the UK’s transition to low-Carbon Economy. We deliver Engineering services in production, processing and distribution services. Also providing professional and managed services through construction focusing on three key customer drivers: Energy Transition, Energy Resilience and Energy Connectivity.
As a Site Manager- PCSM you’ll coordinates all site activities, ensures that the works are constructed in accordance with the drawings, specification and construction phase plan. Assists in the management of costs and budgets, and with the measurement of the works for valuations. Manage the site installation to the agreed target cost and service delivery objectives whilst maintaining safety standards and adhering to company values. Fosters collaborative relationship with client. The role requires an individual with strong strategic thinking and ability to engage and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders including client teams, designers and direct reports to drive safety and quality delivery at all stages.
This role will be full time on site in Naveny, Lincolnshire
Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring plant, equipment, documentation, permits and drawings are organised and available for the site team to begin work
- Coordinates activities in line with project programme maintaining the highest safety standards
- Sets teams to work and responsible for design accuracy/ delivery of individual projects to time, cost and quality.
- Executes and ensures compliance with the safety plan, environmental management plan and quality plan (responsible for final records)
Design
- Manage the development and implementation of design proposals ensuring they meet customer requirements including budget constraints, presenting proposals for approval to the customer.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Engineering team and other departments and also external partners.
- Communicates with key project stakeholders; progress, design challenges and outcomes effectively to ensure alignment and manage expectations
- Manage the allocation of design resources, financial and material resources to optimise project design outcomes; design budgets, design forecast and ensuring design resources are utilised efficiently.
- Ensure that engineering outputs are in accordance with client requirements and standards. This will include, validation processes, testing and best practice to maintain design or product integrity.
- Managing the design team responsible for the project design deliverables ensuring they are completed on time, within budget while also facilitating smooth transition between project phases.
- Ensure a relentless focus on safety by design
- Provide advice and guidance on the “buildability” of the design proposals to the design and construction teams on all packages.
- Support implementation of the BIM protocols, including teamwork and collaboration and the management and sharing of data relating to BIM models
- Manages site drawings

Governance
- Organises and chairs meetings (internally or with subcontractors)
- Liaise with and controls site supervisors and general workforce making sure they have the appropriate competencies and authorisations to effectively complete their roles. Reviews their training records.
Commercial & Contract
- Can communicate effectively with the client in order to ask, take and/or receive instruction to proceed with an activity that is outside the initial scope of works
- Able to identify variations or extras not included in tender allowance in order to submit these changes to the project manager for approval
- Understands the payment process - payment from the client, payment to subcontractors, cash flow, etc.
- Can administrate the contract and understands the importance of record keeping
Health, Safety & Environmental
- Runs site activities in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015
- Ensures all operatives are sufficiently trained to carry out the work required and have correct authorisations to operate plant equipment or receive permits, highlighting any gaps to their line manager.
- Maintains and implements Permit to Work systems.
- Reviews, approves and monitors safe systems of work
- Organise site inductions for all staff, operatives and sub-contractors prior to any site activities commencing and ensure they are authorised for access and have the correct PPE.
- Reviews near misses, lost time or serious incidents and contributes to safety forums and lessons learned
Risk, Issue & Opportunity
- Identifies project risk factors, anticipates changes in project deliverables and timing of works with Project Manager to reduce/re-contract or secure additional resources.
Procurement & Supply Chain
- Ensures materials and equipment arrive on site and are inspected by site team.
- Manages materials order schedule (with design and procurement teams).
Quality
- Implement Inspection and Test Plans
- Records non conformances & defects formally and work towards resolution
- Ensure all work is undertaken with a view towards handover and certification
Schedule
- Manages construction programme, reports on progress and any delays
- Can programme a set of activities to cost and time - understands Earned Value Management
Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a similar role
- Experience of working on a variety of National Grid projects is essential
- Holds a current driving licence
- Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery
- A proven collaborative manager who is experienced in leading and delivering large scale projects of work including water infrastructure or large-scale linear projects
- Experienced in leading multi-contractor and multi-disciplined teams
- Good knowledge of Business Assurance Systems, Quality, Environmental and Safety procedures.
- Working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation (especially CDM) and Costain safety policy & procedures
- Comfortable using MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook

- HNC/HND in an Engineering related subject
