As a Site Operative, you will work within the Recycling and Waste team to support the safe and efficient operation of the Yate Household Waste Recycling Centre. You will assist members of the public by directing them to the appropriate disposal points and ensuring waste is handled correctly. You will also play a key role in managing the flow of traffic on site, maintaining a safe, organised environment for both visitors and colleagues.
What you will be doing
It will be your responsibility to maintain a clean and organised site, ensuring materials do not overspill and the environment remains safe and presentable. You will ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees, the public and all site users by adhering to site permits, relevant legislation and council policies and procedures. Maintaining accurate records of material movements will be a key part of your duties. You will also support the Supervisor and Team Leader in managing container exchanges, ensuring there is always sufficient capacity on site to segregate and store materials safely and effectively.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
