Site Reliability Engineer

Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Critical — Driving IT Operations Modernization Through Observability & Automation

This position requires a strategic thinker with hands-on expertise in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), observability, and automation to modernize IT operations, enhance scalability, reliability, and efficiency.


About the Role

The SRE will play a pivotal role in leading the modernization of IT operations by implementing observability practices and automating toil.

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have a deep understanding of SRE principles and modern observability tools.
  • Drive automation to reduce operational burden (toil).
  • Foster a culture of reliability and innovation.
  • Work with Product Engineering to improve system health, performance, and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to design and implement strategies for modernizing IT operations, enhancing observability, and reducing toil.
  • Architect and deploy observability platforms to monitor system health, performance, and reliability effectively.
  • Propose and drive AI-driven alerting and proactive anomaly detection to minimize Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
  • Establish and enforce SRE best practices, including Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and Error Budgets.
  • Develop an AIOps roadmap to improve operational efficiency.
  • Automate repetitive tasks using scripting, orchestration tools, and AI/ML-based solutions.
  • Lead efforts in toil automation, including self-healing automation for autonomous operations and automated incident responses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure systems are scalable, resilient, and maintainable.
  • Drive incident management and root cause analysis through automation, enabling continuous improvement and autonomous operations.
  • Partner with engineering, architecture, and product teams to promote shift-left engineering practices and ensure reliability.
  • Mentor teams in adopting SRE principles and tools.
  • Advocate for a culture of reliability, automation, and continuous improvement.

Key Skills & Expertise

  • Deep understanding of SRE principles and modern IT operations challenges.
  • Strong proficiency in observability tools, with primary experience in Dynatrace & Datadog.
  • Automation & scripting expertise: Python & Ansible (primary skills).
  • Cloud platform experience: AWS & Azure (primary skills).
  • Containerization & orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Cloud-native distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Exposure to AI/ML for predictive analytics and automated problem resolution.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated release/deployment engineering.
    • (Good to have: Chaos engineering tools like Gremlin or Chaos Monkey).
  • Project management and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
  • Analytical problem-solving, adaptability, and strategic thinking to balance engineering excellence with business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in IT operations, SRE, or DevOps roles.
  • Proven expertise in implementing observability and automation solutions in large-scale environments.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), observability tools, or SRE-related areas.
