Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – GCP Platform Engineer
Location: Bristol, UK (2–3 Days Onsite per Week)
Contract Type: Long-Term Contract
Engagement: Inside IR35
Start Date: ASAP
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with strong Google Cloud Platform (GCP) expertise to join a large-scale enterprise technology programme. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high-performing cloud engineering team responsible for the reliability, scalability, automation, and operational excellence of critical cloud-native platforms.
The successful candidate will play a key role in improving platform resilience, enhancing observability, driving automation, and supporting cloud transformation initiatives across a complex enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain highly available and resilient cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Build and enhance platform reliability through automation, monitoring, alerting and proactive incident management.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
- Support Kubernetes-based workloads running on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
- Implement and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Manage and optimise cloud networking, security, and performance.
- Develop operational tooling and automation using Python, Go or Bash scripting.
- Define and monitor Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Error Budgets.
- Collaborate closely with development, platform, DevOps and security teams.
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
- Drive best practices around observability, reliability engineering and cloud operations.

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Platform Engineer or Cloud Engineer.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong experience with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and containerised environments.
- Proven expertise with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Experience supporting cloud-native microservices architectures.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems administration.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and deployment automation.
- Strong knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as:
- Prometheus
- Grafana
- Google Cloud Monitoring
- ELK / OpenSearch
- Experience with scripting and automation using:
- Python
- Go
- Bash
- Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills.

Preferred Experience
- Experience within Banking, Financial Services or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience with cloud security and compliance frameworks.
- Knowledge of service mesh technologies.
- Experience with GitOps methodologies and tools such as ArgoCD.
- Familiarity with SRE principles including SLIs, SLOs and Error Budgets.
- Google Cloud certifications highly desirable.
