Site Supervisor (Rail Civils & Telecoms)

Location: Southern Region – Wales & Western Route (Reading area, Slough to Newport)

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Supervisor to support the delivery of Project Reach across the Wales & Western railway route from Slough to Newport.

Project Reach delivers essential lineside civils, telecoms infrastructure and associated rail works, including fibre optic cable installation, troughing routes, and supporting civil engineering activities. The role is site-based with regular travel across the route and plays a critical part in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and right first time.

Business Unit & Project Environment

You will join a fast-paced rail delivery team working within long-term frameworks and capital delivery programmes. Project Reach includes:

  • Fibre optic and telecoms cable installation
  • Trough routes and lineside civils
  • Minor civils and enabling works
  • Drainage, ducting and earthworks
  • Route-wide infrastructure upgrades

Works are delivered in live rail environments, requiring strong leadership, robust safety behaviours, and effective coordination with project and site management teams.

The Role – Site Supervisor

As Site Supervisor, you will be responsible for day-to-day supervision of site teams, ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

You will support the Project Manager by maintaining control on site, coordinating labour and plant, and ensuring all works align with approved documentation and project standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the Health, Safety and Welfare of all employees and subcontractors on site
  • Implementing and promoting company, client, and project-specific H&S and environmental initiatives
  • Supervising and coordinating site activities across civils and telecoms works
  • Ensuring compliance with:
    • Legislation and industry standards
    • Contract requirements and specifications
    • H&S, Quality and Environmental Plans
    • Approved WPPs, Task Briefings and construction drawings
  • Leading, motivating and managing site teams to maximise productivity
  • Delivering works to programme and supporting cost control
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate site records (site diaries, allocation sheets, plant and delivery records)
  • Escalating programme, safety, quality or resource issues to the Project Manager
  • Ensuring quality targets are met and works are completed right first time
  • Identifying training and competence needs within the site team
  • Actively supporting continuous improvement and best practice across Project Reach

Requirements

Essential

  • PTS
  • Proven experience in a rail Site Supervisor / Works Supervisor role
  • Experience delivering lineside civils, telecoms or rail infrastructure works
  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • CSCS
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

  • COSS competence
  • Telecoms or fibre installation experience
  • Ideally cable pull and trough installation experience
  • Civils background (ducting, drainage, structures, general civils)
  • Experience working on Network Rail projects / infrastructure maintenance
