The Port of Dover is a vital gateway for millions of passengers and significant volumes of trade each year. We are currently recruiting a Site Supervisor to support the safe and successful delivery of construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects across our diverse and dynamic Port estate. If you’re experienced in construction supervision, passionate about quality and safety, and ready to take on varied and meaningful work, this could be the role for you.
About the Role As a Site Supervisor, you will plan, coordinate and oversee a wide range of construction, infrastructure and small works projects across the Port. You will work closely with contractors, internal stakeholders and Project Managers to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, to specification, and on schedule. Your role will include conducting inspections, managing compliance, supporting documentation reviews and ensuring that all site activities follow health & safety legislation, CDM regulations, and Port of Dover standards. This is a hands-on, varied role offering exposure to a wide breadth of projects, including civil engineering, highway works, marine assets, refurbishments, and new build schemes.
Key Responsibilities • Plan, coordinate and supervise onsite construction activities across the Port estate (including paving, infrastructure, refurbishments, marine works and small project delivery). • Ensure all works are carried out safely and in line with contract requirements, Port standards, safe systems of work and NEC3 Supervisor responsibilities. • Review and contribute to Risk Assessments, Method Statements, permits and H&S documentation. • Ensure works meet agreed specifications, drawings, quality standards and testing regimes. • Conduct formal and informal inspections, reporting progress and ensuring timely rectification of defects. • Maintain detailed site diaries, logging progress, resources, incidents and variations. • Support others with feasibility studies, surveys, cost estimates and documentation for maintenance and new-build contracts. • Assist with the review of third party health & safety documentation, facilitate access, deliver site inductions and conduct site compliance checks. • Provide support, problem solving advice and clear communication to stakeholders and contractors.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
