Garstang – CRRC | Full Time (40 hours per week) | Weekend enhanced working hours (Thursday–Monday)
Grade: Grade 5
Staff Responsibility: Supervisory only
Qualifications
The post holder must possess relevant certificates of competence, such as:
- Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) Level 4
- Occupational Certificate of Competence (OCC)
- First Aid at Work, or commit to achieving competence within a reasonable timescale.

- Communication & customer service: Demonstrate excellent verbal/written communication skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality customer standards
- Sustainability focus: Drive recycling and waste-reuse initiatives throughout operations
- Health & safety compliance: Uphold all relevant health and safety policies

- Ensuring safe, compliant, and high-standard recycling operations through set procedures
- Making autonomous decisions on staff roles and responses to issues
- Overseeing the daily operative duties, site maintenance standards, and customer service excellence
- Maximising waste-sorting efficiency, separating recyclables, and promoting correct waste disposal practices for visitors
Key Duties & Tasks
- Supervise operatives and allocate workloads while maintaining compliance with operating standards
- Record and report quality assurance data, incidents (e.g., hazards, near misses, maintenance issues), and staff absences
- Manage direct customer interaction, including difficult situations and compliance reinforcement
- Operate specialist equipment (e.g., excavators) and train others in safe use, adhering to health and safety regulations
- Liaise with contractors to ensure adherence to site rules, quality, and standards
- Plan for what’s-and-absences to maintain operational continuity across tasks and shifts
- Train HWRC staff in recording, reporting, and recording system adherence
- Assist in re-use shop operations and waste management activities
- Support Site Manager in assigned tasks (proportional to this role grade)

Additional Duties & Commitments
- Bank Holiday workings: Willingness to cover additional shifts on legal holidays.
- Qualification monitoring: Must attain/maintain required certificates, including equipment operation training.
- Facility mobility: Flexibility to transfer between sites within reasonable distance or cover alternate facilities as needed (with travel expenditure claims, should own transport conditions be met).
- Travel arrangements: If not eligible for reimbursement, may use public transport during workdays or rely on organised transfers.
