Site Transport Manager (Monday to Friday, 9:30–18:30)

Location: West Thurrock, RM20 3AX
Salary: up to £40,000 per annum
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

The Role

Berkmann Wine Cellars is seeking an experienced and proactive Site Transport Manager to lead our busy West Thurrock transport operation and deliver exceptional service standards. The successful candidate will manage daily transport office activity and coordinate our delivery function through efficient dispatch and debrief processes, working closely with drivers, customer service teams, and our third-party logistics partner, London City Bond (LCB).

Enjoy an excellent work-life balance with structured hours — Monday to Friday, 9:30 to 18:30 — with no night shifts or weekend working required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage driver scheduling and resource planning
  • Managing the day-to-day transport office operation
  • Leading, motivating and managing a team of circa 25 drivers
  • Overseeing driver recruitment, onboarding and performance management
  • Managing dispatch and driver debrief processes
  • Working closely with our 3PL warehouse to ensure smooth delivery operations
  • Delivering exceptional customer service standards
  • Ensuring transport compliance, controls and operating procedures are maintained
  • Monitoring and managing resources effectively to ensure alignment with budget
  • Resolving operational issues quickly and proactively

About You

  • Proven experience in a transport, logistics, or distribution operations role
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to coach and motivate team members and communicate confidently with internal stakeholders
  • Proven people management experience
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams) and POD/delivery management systems
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with the capability to identify issues quickly and implement effective resolutions
  • Solid geographical knowledge of Greater London
  • A calm, professional approach under pressure with strong decision-making capability
  • An understanding of GDPR and confidentiality practices
  • Good understanding of transport compliance, health & safety procedures, and operational risk management
  • A full UK driving licence (maximum 6 points)

Working Pattern

  • 9.30am – 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
  • No night shifts or weekend working required
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet operational needs
  • Bank Holiday cover on a rota basis (paid at double time or time off in lieu)
