SIU Operations Manager

Stornoway | £44.4k - £55.5k per annum (dependent on skills and qualifications) plus additional standby allowance and company car payments

Full time | Hybrid - Office/Operational role

We are looking for an Operational Team Manager to join our Scottish Independent Undertakings team based in Stornoway, reporting to the District Manager.

As an SIU Operations Manager, you'll lead the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our LPG storage and gas distribution network, ensuring customers continue to receive the energy they depend on every day. This is a varied leadership role where you'll manage people, projects, assets, and emergency response activities, while championing safety, operational excellence, and customer service.   • Managing both SGN employees and contractors across all SGN activities including the operation of the LPG storage facility, mains network, and provision of Emergency service. Ensuring the provision of safe, cost-effective, and customer-focused operations.
  • Ensuring that H.S.E. legislation and SGN Standards of Service, policies, and procedures are complied with.
  • Managing the maintenance and installation of operational plant located in hazardous and non-hazardous areas. This includes various gas, electrical, and instrumentation asset measurement systems within the site.
  • Participating in a high-frequency emergency standby rota; you will receive appropriate additional payments for this.
  • Monitoring and improving productivity to drive performance. Promoting best practice, identifying, and introducing business improvements to achieve business targets.
  • Managing projects associated with modifications to the LPG plant and gas distribution network including the preparation of capital applications.
  • Managing the construction process associated with the new Pipelines and Plant: upgrading or replacing plant and equipment or diverting pipelines. Liaising with local authorities, contractors, customers, and the general public to promote good customer relations.
  • Maintaining appropriate records to satisfy legal and operational requirements.
  • Ensuring that the annual maintenance programmes are completed in accordance with legislative requirements and Company policy.
  • Preparing, planning, and authorising operations in accordance with the Safe Control of Operations procedures.

What you will need

We’re looking for a positive and motivated individual who has good leadership, organizational, diagnostic, problem-solving, and people management skills.

  • At least two years of Engineering experience together with a formal recognized engineering qualification to HND level.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Gas industry is advantageous.

The nature of the job means that you may be expected to work variable hours and will be required to participate as necessary in a high-frequency standby rota.
