Skilled Operatives – Groundworks & Civil Engineering (Whitby & Wider Region)
Location: Whitby, with work across the wider UK region Employer: JN Bentley Ltd (part of Mott MacDonald Bentley)
We are seeking energetic and proactive Skilled Operatives with a strong background in civil engineering, groundworks, and water industry projects to join our trusted team.
About the Role
You will report to the Lead Hand and Site Management, collaborating on a team to deliver high-quality groundworks and civil engineering work primarily within the water industry.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Safely and efficiently performing day-to-day site tasks, including:
- Concreting
- Deep drainage and pipe laying
- General civil works
- Ensuring adherence to works programmes, maintaining productivity and high standards
- Actively contributing to health, safety, and environmental compliance
- Working collaboratively in a dynamic site environment
Requirements & Preferred Qualifications
Essential
- Proven experience as a Skilled Operative in civil engineering or groundworks projects
- Hands-on experience in:
- Concrete pours
- Deep drainage and pipe laying (must include water industry drainage experience)
- Strong health and safety mindset, with experience in a structured reporting culture
- Current CSCS / CPCS / NOCN or NPORS qualification
- Including NVQ level 2/3 in Construction or related discipline
- Relevant plant tickets (e.g., excavators, skid steers, swepers)
- Full UK driving licence (essential for travel between sites)
- Location flexibility (primarily operating in North Yorkshire & surrounding regions)

- Slinger/Signaller or Crane Lift Supervisor
- Confined Spaces (City & Guilds 5001 or equivalent)
