Skilled Operative Groundworker
Skilled Operative (Civil Engineering & Groundworks) – Leeds Area
At JN Bentley Ltd, we are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Skilled Operatives residing in and around the Leeds area, with the ability to work across the wider region.
This is an outstanding opportunity for individuals with a strong background in civil engineering and groundworks to join a well-established and growing business. You will need a proactive approach to work, health, and safety, along with experience within the water industry and the ability to perform general civil works, including:
- Concreting
- Deep drainage
- Pipe laying
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Lead Hand and Site Management, your role involves:
- Operating as part of a site team, delivering groundworks and civil engineering activities (primarily within the water industry)
- Executing day-to-day site activities in a safe, efficient, and high-quality manner
- Ensuring adherence to quality, productivity, and health & safety standards
- Supporting the timely delivery of projects to programmed deadlines

Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience working as a Skilled Operative on civil engineering or groundworks projects
- Hands-on experience in general civil works, including:
- Concrete pours
- Deep drainage
- Pipe laying
- Strong health & safety culture, with experience working in a reporting environment
- Current certification in one of the following:
- CSCS
- CPCS
- NOCN
- NPORS (with NVQ and relevant plant tickets)
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a site team
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
Advantageous
- National Water Hygiene Card
- Thames Water Passport
- Slinger/ Signaller or Crane Lift Supervisor certification
- Confined Spaces (City & Guilds) qualification
- Additional plant tickets
- Three-day First Aid certification
