Skilled Operatives – Groundworks & Civil Engineering (Water Industry)
At JN Bentley Ltd, we are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Skilled Operatives to join our long-term projects in and around Christchurch, with work opportunities across the wider region.
Ideally, we are looking for a cohesive team comprising a Lead Hand / Ganger and experienced Skilled and General Operatives to collaborate on site. Applications are welcome from Lead Hands and General Operatives.
This is an exciting opportunity for professionals with a strong background in civil engineering and groundworks to join a growing business. You must demonstrate:
- A proactive approach to work, health, and safety
- Relevant experience in the water industry
- Hands-on expertise in general civil works, including:
- Concreting
- Deep drainage
- Pipe laying
The Role
Reporting to the Lead Hand or Site Management, you will form part of a site team, delivering groundworks and civil engineering activities predominantly for the water industry.
Core responsibilities include:
- Carrying out day-to-day site activities safely and efficiently
- Contributing to on-time delivery of works
- Maintaining high standards in quality, productivity, and health & safety

Candidate Specification
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Skilled Operative on civil engineering/groundworks projects
- Hands-on experience in the following:
- Concrete pours
- Deep drainage systems
- Pipe laying
- A strong commitment to health & safety, with experience reporting hazards
- Valid CSCS / CPCS / NOCN or NPORS card along with the relevant NVQ and plant tickets
- Ability to work effectively as part of a site team
- Full UK driving licence (essential)

- National Water Hygiene Card
- Thames Water Passport
- Slinger / Signaller or Crane Lift Supervisor qualification
- Confined Spaces (City & Guilds) certification
- Additional plant tickets
- 3-day First Aid at Work qualification
