Do you have track infrastructure maintenance experience on London Underground/Network Rail OR demonstrable engineering/maintenance experience in the Armed Forces, Construction, Utilities Industry, or other sectors? Do you also hold a valid driving licence? If so, we would like to hear from you.
We have exciting opportunities for you to work as a Skilled Track Operative (STO) within one of our Track teams across the network. If successful, after the relevant training and assessment, you will undertake safety critical inspections, maintenance and replacement of track and associated assets individually and/or as a member of a team.
Night shift hours are between 23:00 and 06:00, five days a week.

- To carry out these tasks effectively, you will be required to demonstrate competence to the given standards and work instructions.
- In addition, you should be willing to undertake such track maintenance duties and tasks that the management deems necessary and are within the individual’s capability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
