About the Candidate

Candidates should hold:

  • A Level 3 qualification (or higher)

  • Working in pastoral, skills development, or educational roles.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Skills Development Coach to mentor students in the Uniformed Public Services curriculum. Your role involves:

Collaborating with a team to deliver an excellent learner experience while supporting students’ pastoral care, personal development, and academic progression. This includes working with Level 1, 2, and 3 learners to maximise their potential.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Meeting regularly with students to encourage, motivate, and challenge them towards both their personal targets and employment goals.
  • Designing tailored Global Skills sessions that improve students’ personal development, wellbeing, and employability.
  • Managing work-related activities and work experience relevant to uniformed services, aligning with real-world career readiness.
  • Promoting the Changemaker ethos—empowering students as agents of positive social change.
  • Assisting students with UCAS applications (personal statements, course choices, and university readiness).
  • Teaming up with teaching staff and external organisations to ensure learners are well-prepared for jobs or further study in uniformed services.

Additionally, you will:

  • Monitor student attendance and punctuality.
  • Support the development of study skills, positive behaviours, and self-motivation.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Academic qualification at Level 3 or above.
  • Minimum Level 2 (GCSE), or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written) for student and staff engagement.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  • Commitment to PREVENT and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • Demonstrated experience in motivating, prioritising, and leading individuals or groups.
  • Ability to uphold British values, inclusion principles, and the College’s mission to enhance equality and diversity.

Desirable:

  • Experience within post-16 education, (ideally) in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with progress tracking and assessment systems.
  • Understanding of learner wellbeing and barriers to effective learning.
  • Knowledge or experience of Uniformed Public Services or related sectors (e.g. policing, fire and rescue, emergency services).
