Job Description: Band 5 Sleep Physiologist

The Band 5 post holder is required to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team towards the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders and contribute to and maintain excellent standards of patient care and clinical practice.

One of the principal roles of this position is to ensure that sleep diagnostic data is accurately collected, recorded, analysed, and saved and therefore excellent IT skills are essential. It also involves daily face to face interaction with patients to deliver education and instruction and requires excellent communication and reporting skills.

The post holder will work as part of the wider team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the service and will be supported by the senior members of the team. In-house and external training is offered as part of this role. Some home working is available as part of this role.

  • Set up any of the sleep investigation studies used within the department, including any calibration and system checks necessary adhering to standard operating procedures.
  • Download and store patient data from all sleep equipment and devices in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Deliver education, instruction, and support to patients attending the home sleep study and inpatient sleep study.
  • Competently commence patients on sleep therapies including CPAP and on occasion NIV, according to departmental policy and procedure and to be able to competently evaluate patient progress and identify any changes or interventions necessary.
  • Participate and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Assist, advise, and support all members of the MDT within the parameters of your experience.
