Location & Work Arrangement

The successful candidate will work in a flexible hybrid role, spending 2 days on-site at Knostrop WWTW in Leeds, while the remainder of the week is office-based or remote. This role operates 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate logistics spend into a commercially-driven solution across the company.
  • Ensure Waste Carriers Licence compliance aligns with EA and company regulations for audits and site spot checks.
  • Develop root-cause analysis skills to address performance issues, driving cost savings and improving KPIs across contracts.
  • Lead cost-effective solutions, influencing stakeholders and SLudge Operations Manager (SOM) or Bioresources department decision-making.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Yorkshire Water, onsite contractors, and third-party haulers for sludge demand coordination (across 650+ sites).
  • Contribute to tactical and strategic forecasts to align business plans with sludge management strategy.
  • Flex across technical disciplines including operations, finance, legal compliance, commercial planning, and project delivery.
  • Oversee income-water-volume demand-reporting-recording systems to fulfill:
    • Energy production targets
    • Regulatory compliance
  • Audit compliance areas such as:
    • Waste law
    • Health & Safety
    • Duty of Care obligations
  • Ensure financial & commercial awareness is embedded in business decisions, working with the SOM to implement cost-savings insights.
  • Culture Manager: Drive operational excellence and cultural change through improvement projects and stakeholder management.
  • External Liaison: Engage positively with public inquiries and escalations, ensuring customer satisfaction (C-MEX).

Detailed IT Systems: You will USE SAP, SCADA, JRP, Fleet Telematics, and Tacho systems – all critical for operational tools at your disposal.


Skills & Qualifications Required

Essentials

  • Industry expertise in:
    • Logistics or waste management
    • Demand modeling and optimization
    • Ideally, water or environmental industry knowledge
  • Proven cost-savings record and operational performance.
  • Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and performance optimization skills.
  • Hands-on experience in:
    • Third-party contractor management and service delivery.
    • Long/short-term forecasting and medium-term planning.
  • Financial acumen with total-cost-of-environment focus.
  • Pressure-tested results-driven buyer and negotiator.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets and propose/implement solutions.
  • Stakeholder influence: Convince and uplift agreement for changes across teams.
  • Customer-facing communication, enhancing public interactions.
