About the Role
Yorkshire Water is offering an exciting opportunity to join their Bioresources Team as a [Sludge Logistics Optimiser] in a flexible hybrid role (2 days on-site at Knostrop Water Recycling Centre, Leeds).**
This dynamic role focuses on continually improving sludge logistics solutions to deliver strong commercial, legal, and operational value for Yorkshire Water. You’ll be part of a multi-skilled team with a wide range of responsibilities, from operations and finance to strategic planning and project delivery.

Salary & Benefits
- Competitive salary: £42,881 – £50,710 (depending on experience)
- Performance-related bonus: Up to £1,000 annually

Core Role Focus Areas

Logistics & Cost Optimization:
- Integrate logistics spend into commercially driven, cost-effective solutions across the business.
- Collaborate with Bioresources strategic programs to align logistics with broader business goals.

Compliance & Regulatory Affairs:
- Ensure Waste Carriers Licences are compliant with Environment Agency (EA) regulations.
- Conduct audits, spot checks, and reporting to internal/external regulatory teams.
- Maintain Health & Safety (H&S), legal compliance, and duty of care standards for all waste operations.

Performance & Cost Savings:
- Investigate root causes of operational underperformance.
- Implement TOTEX (total expenditure)-focused savings across sludge logistics.
- Challenge contract performance and internal KPIs to secure best-value contracts.

Reporting & Strategic Forecasting:
- Update demand planning for sludge logistics across 650+ Yorkshire Water sites.
- Align medium-long-term forecasting with energy generation targets, regulatory reporting needs.
- Utilise energy reporting metrics to support operational compliance and optimisation.

Contract & Stakeholder Relations:
- Serve as the primary liaison between:
- Yorkshire Water operations and onsite contractors.
- Third-party logistics providers for demand planning and service delivery.
- Resolve customer queries (C-MEX**)** to improve public relations.
- Serve as the primary liaison between:
Technical & System Integration
- Utilise SAP, SCADA, RTS, JRP, Fleet Telematics and Tacho systems.
- Contribute to tactical & strategic Sliming (Sludge) Process projects via activity improvement plans.
What Experience & Qualifications You’ll Need
To excel in this role, you’ll have:
- Specialised knowledge of logistics, waste management, or sludge process optimization.
- Track record of identifying financial savings and improving operational efficiency.
- Able to analyse surveillance data, propose data-driven solutions, and report on performance trends.
- Strategic forecasting expertise, with experience working across third parties and regulators.
- Strong constituent engagement skills to persuade stakeholders for change.
- Legal compliance expertise, including Waste Carriers Licence requirements and environmental regulations.

Desirable (but not essential):
- Previous water or utilities industry experience.
- Hands-on work in operational roles related to sludge, waste treatment, or resource logistics.
- Experience managing third-party suppliers or risks.
- Familiarity with operational contract audits and audit preparation.
