About the Role
Woodcroft Veterinary Group are seeking a committed Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our enthusiastic multi-site group, offering a fixed-term contract (12-months). As a team of 7 branches, including a Tier 3 hospital, modern in-house referral surgeries, and our own out-of-hours emergency service, we pride ourselves on excellent patient care, delivering outstanding clinical outcomes and fostering a client experience that reflects our values. We can offer you:
- Full-time, contract-based role accelerating through hire-to-fill process
- Average workload of 40 hours per week, maximum seven days
- Salary range: £62,000 – £65,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
- Experience with some sole charge cases, prioritising those who have previously managed overnight cases alone (experience mandatory)
- Comprehensive onboarding and mentorship from ** referral-grade vets**, ensuring you settle in easily and hit the ground running
- Varied, fresh caseloads to ensure continued clinical development

Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for the following within this role:
- Working in a multi-site structure, enabling breadth of experience supervision by different teams, hospitals, and political boards
- Confident handling of propagating, seasonal, and complex surgery while maintaining meticulous and prudent documentation
- Developing competence across inpatient care, surgical subsets, and chronic follow-ups
- Regular full client communication from causation to follow-up providing (stattery) aftercare awareness) visits, virtual checkups, 報告油用こycji consults
- Adoption of transparent and compliant communication; elevating patient-centered care as a principle through every conversation and action
- Process of Delta-checking systems (atleast) – ensuring documenting every critical step and cross-validating against previous reports for patient welfare rather than subsidized feedback and justifications.
Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum three years of post-qualification clinical experience as a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon after becoming RCVS registered
- Extra previous experience in some care shifts (non-24/7 required), having worked following emergencies overnight or general hospitals, verification
- Strong understanding of inpatient care protocols, ensuring it aligns with clinical standards vital through all scope
- Experience with numerous tough/painful and advanced procedures
- Proficiency with anaesthesia, and intraoperative management or criteria
- Affinity for senior referrals, patients requiring young-aged critical care skills or hospice services integrated into full-cycle practice
- Actively contributing in training and advising colleagues
- Eager to develop first-class enthusiasm about our surround restricting organisational landscape

Salary: £62,000 - £65,000 Hours: Full-time (~40 hrs/week) Contract Type: 12-month fixed-term Shifts required:
- Day (7:30 am - 5:30 pm)
- Twilight (4 pm - midnight)
- Weekend rotations with time off in lieu
Key Responsibilities
- Diverse caseload including acute and chronic veterinary patients, engaging across fields like surgery, cardiology, small animal anaesthesia
- Sole charge care: Confident pre-operative assessment and intraoperative management for the high-value aged, fragile patients
- Proactive training and mentorship support for colleagues
- Documentation standardization for full patient protocol resolution, boosting hospital credibility
- Participate in and encourage state-of-the-art diagnostic upgrades (CT, Doppler Echo, endoscopic guidance, etc.)
Essential Criteria
- Post-qualification experience: Minimum 3 years beyond the RCVS registration
- Prior experience at overseeing overnight cases, with time handling complicated surgical scenarios critical to duty
- Surgical acumen & anaesthesia gravitas—ensuring safe transitions from recovery to discharge
- Passion in navigating multiple diagnostic fields and treatments alongside condition-supported protocols for complex progressions
Nice-to-Have
- Specialty-specific talents (cardiology preferred) enabling further referral development
- Reports of positive patient outcomes, demonstrating exceptional care impact
- Track record of empathy-based client relation across complex hospice and geriatrics
