I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About The Role
Reporting to the variety of managers within the business, as a Small Works Coordinator, you will ensure smaller refurbishment and maintenance projects are delivered smoothly, on time, and to the highest standards. You will coordinate resources and liaise with contractors, clients, and internal teams, while also raising purchase orders, managing invoices, and keeping project trackers up to date.
Clear communication will be a key part of your role, as you provide progress updates and reports to stakeholders. You will also be expected to solve problems as they arise, ensuring deadlines are achieved without compromise, and to contribute to a culture of collaboration, fairness, and pride across the team.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is highly organised, confident in managing multiple priorities, and able to work effectively under pressure. You should have experience using Microsoft 365 and be familiar with CAFM or other project management systems. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will need to build positive relationships with colleagues and contractors. Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to find practical solutions are also key to success in this role.
To be successful, you will need previous experience in an administrative or project coordination role, along with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365. Experience with CAFM systems is essential. It would be an advantage if you have a background in housing or accommodation services, or if you have ex-military experience or familiarity with MOD estates.
