Portsmouth Water are delighted to have an opening for a Smart Networks Analyst to join their fantastic Leakage team.
In this exciting role, you will play a vital part in helping us better understand and manage our network by analysing, maintaining, and interpreting operational and network datasets. Working closely with colleagues across the business, you will turn data into clear, meaningful insights—producing accurate reports and developing actionable intelligence that supports our field teams, informs decision-making, and helps us meet both regulatory and business performance targets.
This is a great opportunity for a graduate, looking to utilise their skills, and to make a tangible impact, contributing to efficient operations and helping us deliver a high-quality service to our customers.
What Will You Be Doing?
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse flow, pressure, acoustic, and customer data to support Active Leakage Control (ALC) activity and prioritise operational interventions.
- Maintain, cleanse, and validate Minimum Night Flow (MNF) and Customer Night Use (CNU) datasets to ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency.
- Produce regular analysis and reporting on DMA demand, leakage performance, and wider network trends, presenting findings in a clear and meaningful way.
- Analyse, verify, and report water balance components, supporting robust internal assurance and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Manage the Waternet platform and associated datasets, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and fit for operational use.
- Interpret acoustic data and raise Points of Interest (POIs) for Leakage Technicians to support timely and effective investigation activity.
- Apply analytical tools and techniques to identify patterns, interpret complex data, and generate actionable operational insight.
- Prepare weekly reporting on leakage, Pressure Harmonic Control (PHC), and water balance performance, including quality checks and internal assurance processes.
- Respond to ad hoc data, reporting, and analysis requests from across Operations, providing timely and reliable outputs to support business needs.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, shape insight needs, and improve the value of operational data.
- Identify opportunities to improve data processes, reporting methods, and team performance through continuous improvement and best practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
