Do you love all things social media and have a passion for creating great content? Do you love your life at Salford and want to share your experience with others? Do you want to gain valuable experience working in a professional marketing department? If so, then we want to hear from you.
In the department of Marketing, Recruitment and External Relations, we are focused on making sure everyone knows what a fantastic place the University of Salford is to study, and we’re constantly looking for new ways to share our stories with potential students.
In the Social Media Team we do this by creating Instagram Reels, TikTok content, trending formats, as well as writing blogs and answering questions online. We also love to explore and try new, unique creative formats that sets us apart from other university Social Media channels, so we’d love students who aren’t afraid to try new things to join us!
What makes Salford strong is our diversity, so don’t worry if you don’t feel like you fit the “typical” student image. We actively welcome applications from everyone whatever their situation, including mature students, commuter students, postgraduate students, or students with families.
If you have skills in video editing, design or photography then that’s great, but we’re not expecting you to know everything- even if you’ve used CapCut to create a few TikToks for your own page, that’s enough for us! What’s more important is your enthusiasm in storytelling, your willingness to push yourself out of your comfort zone to try new things and drive to create content of the highest standard.
As everything that you do will be shared on the university’s official social media accounts, your attention to detail, spelling and grammar, and customer service skills must be outstanding. You’ll be working in a team of other students and must be able to commit to regular days each week in the Marketing office.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
