Senior Social Media Manager
Location: London – Hybrid
Contract: Five-month fixed-term contract
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Salary: £52,468 per year

Overview
Our client is an international charity working to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene for communities around the world.
They are seeking a Senior Social Media Manager to lead the development and delivery of strategic, audience-led social media content. Working within the Digital Content and Experience team, the successful candidate will use creativity, data, and platform expertise to increase brand awareness, audience engagement, and campaign impact.
This role will work closely with social media, digital strategy, and creative content colleagues. It offers the opportunity to shape high-profile digital campaigns, advise senior stakeholders, and mentor a Social Media Manager while contributing to a purpose-led organization with an international reach.
The position follows a hybrid working model. A minimum of 40% of working time must be spent face-to-face through attendance at the London office, external meetings, or business travel.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continually optimize social media and creator strategies.
- Use audience insights, platform data, and campaign performance to improve digital activity.
- Align social media plans with wider organizational, fundraising, communications, and campaign objectives.
- Plan and produce creative, targeted, and accessible digital communications for external audiences.
- Commission, create, edit, and publish engaging social-first content across relevant platforms.
- Provide strategic advice on priority campaigns and digital content projects.
- Review and approve social-first content, ensuring it meets quality, brand, and audience requirements.
- Ensure priority projects are delivered on time and within agreed budgets.
- Make informed editorial decisions relating to video, written copy, imagery, and user interaction.
- Translate analytics and performance data into clear recommendations and actionable digital strategies.
- Build effective relationships with stakeholders and influence decision-making at all levels.
- Work collaboratively across a matrix structure involving digital, creative, communications, and campaign teams.
- Mentor and support the Social Media Manager.
- Provide guidance on complex, sensitive, or high-profile content and campaign activity.
- Promote equity, inclusion, and safeguarding across all digital communications and working practices.

Requirements
- Significant experience developing and delivering digital and social media strategies.
- Proven experience managing social media channels and producing high-performing digital content.
- Extensive editorial experience, including commissioning, creating, editing, and publishing digital content.
- Strong judgement across video, written copy, imagery, community interaction, and platform-specific content.
- Demonstrable ability to create innovative, audience-focused, and social-first communications.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, audience behavior, and digital content trends.
- Experience using data, analytics, and audience insights to inform strategic decisions.
- Ability to translate complex performance data into practical recommendations and successful digital strategies.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience working effectively within a matrix-managed organization.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines, and budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience providing strategic advice and quality assurance on high-profile content.
- Ability to mentor, support, and guide colleagues.
- A strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and safeguarding.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Desirable:
- Understanding of AI search optimization and SEO techniques.
- Knowledge of user experience, testing, and conversion optimization.
- Significant experience working with content management systems.
- Experience working within international development, the charity sector, or another purpose-led organization.

Annual leave is accrued according to the successful candidate’s start date. The three days allocated to the Christmas and New Year office closure are automatically scheduled and cannot be moved. Where insufficient leave has been accrued, these days may be unpaid or applied on a pro-rata basis.
