About The Role
Our vision is that all adults in West Northamptonshire are supported to live healthy, independent lives, with seamless access to high-quality, joined-up advice and services that empower them to help themselves.
As an Assistant Team Manager / Principal Social Worker, you will play a key role in leading and embedding strengths-based practice across the team. Working closely with the Team Manager, you will support the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred services, ensuring the best possible outcomes for residents.
You will help shape a confident, skilled workforce, promoting a culture of learning, reflective practice, and continuous improvement in line with Care Act principles.

Important Note: This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity subject to a Children and Adults Barred List check. What You’ll Be doing
In this role, you will:
- Support the day-to-day leadership of the team, ensuring high-quality practice while creating an environment where staff feel supported and empowered
- Play a key role in embedding strengths-based, outcome-focused practice and lead by example, championing high professional standards and continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Ensure strong performance and effective service delivery
- Supervision & Guidance
- Provide supervision, coaching, and professional guidance to social workers and colleagues
- Safeguarding & Risk
- Promote safe decision-making, including safeguarding practice and risk management
- Quality Assurance & Improvements
- Contribute to audits and service improvements
Culture & Development

Champion innovation, reflective practice, and continuous improvement using audits, evaluations, and learning reviews

Support staff development at all career stages (students, ASYEs to experienced Social Workers)

Build a positive, inclusive team culture, valued by staff and strong in relationships

Collaborate with partners to ensure seamless outcomes for residents
About You
You will be an experienced and motivated social care professional with a commitment to delivering high-quality, strengths-based practice. This role is ideal for:
- Current adult safeguarding practitioners
- Experienced managers looking for a new challenge
While Social Work England registration is not mandatory, you must bring:
- Extensive experience in Adult Social Care
- Competence in legal work (e.g., court proceedings and documentation)
- Deep understanding of relevant legislation and ability to navigate funding options
- Strong integrity, approachability, and solution-focused mentality
Key Skills
- Leadership, practice development, and experience within safeguarding
- Understanding of partnership working across health and social care
- Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship-building ability
- Commitment to quality, inclusion, and continuous improvement

Qualifications
- Higher post-qualifying training or a management qualification in a relevant field
- Experience managing teams in areas like Older People, Mental Health, Learning Disability, or Adult Safeguarding
Additional
- Standard working hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
- Must have access to reliable transport
