The Service and Team
We’re seeking committed, compassionate Social Workers to join our high-performing 16 Plus and Separated Children Seeking Asylum Service. You’ll support vulnerable young people in and transitioning out of care through ** relationship-based pathway planning **, ensuring their move towards independence is empowering.
Our team collaborates closely with Carefree, a local charity led by young people and recognised for its impact, alongside partner agencies providing holistic, integrated support. The multi-disciplinary team you’ll join includes Social Workers, Personal Advisors, Youth Workers, Housing Specialists, and Mental Health Professionals—all focused on giving young people the tools to thrive.
Awarded an Outstanding status in 2024, our service has been praised for its " exemplar partnership with a specialist service to young people " and " impressive level of support Tamil: la for care leavers."

Why This Role?
You’ll make a lasting difference by building trusted relationships with 16–18-year-olds as they navigate critical life steps: education, employment, housing, health — and more.
Working directly with:
- Young care leavers
- Children seeking asylum
- Families and key partners (housing, education, health)
You’ll utilise collaborative pathway planning to tailor each young person’s support. It’s all about empowering them to step into adulthood confidently.

The Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Qualified Social Worker - registered in England ( DipSW, BA Social Work, or equivalent) mandatory*.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting, long-term relationships with young people experienced care leavers or UACs.
- Proficient in assessing risk management and conflict resolution methods.
- IT capability with a Full British Driving Licence due to fieldwork nature of the role.
Desirable Skills
- Prior experience of working with Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UACs) (though not mandatory).
- Additional training endorsed by Ofsted’s core curriculum.
Note: Candidates completing their ASYE (within last 2 years) can apply as a Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) through Cornwall’s recognised programme.
