Mental Health Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) – Twilight Shift (G9)

Salary: £40,777 - £46,142 | Full-Time (37 hours/week) | County-Wide Role, Lancashire County Council

About the Role

We are seeking **dedicated and highly qualified Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join Lancashire County Council’s Mental Health Service. As an integral part of a 24-hour crisis response team, you will operate with full autonomy and expertise in Mental Health Act legislation, assessing individuals during mental health crises and coordinating multi-agency interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct statutory assessments (including Mental Health Act assessments) across all age groups, often at short notice
  • Support social care processes, liaising with health, law enforcement, courts, and housing teams to ensure seamless care coordination
  • Work flexible afternoon-to-night shifts, including one weekend per month
  • Provide rapid intervention teams for those requiring statutory support during urgent periods of crisis

This role requires confidence, professional judgment, and adaptive leadership—you will often respond to emergencies requiring immediate action, ensuring individuals receive the right interventions under legal frameworks.

Requirements

Professional Fit

  • Must be registered as a qualified Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) by Social Work England (SWE) or equivalent regulatory body (e.g., Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) or Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) for non-social work professionals)
  • Awaiting registration? Applications can still be submitted preregis if HCPC/SWE registration has been initiated

Legal & Administrative Considerations

  • Must obtain a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance (varies in length post-interview confirmation) under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975
