About the Role

Permanent, Full Time £36,124 to £51,834 per annum (starting salary for NQSW: £36,124 rising to £38,487 upon completing the ASYE programme) Location: Basildon Closing Date: 19 July 2026

This open position is for Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) and experienced Social Workers, with the experienced role paying between £38,487 to £51,834 per annum across nine entry points.

The Service & Team

Children and Families:

Essex has achieved two Outstanding Ofsted ratings in social care. Our service promotes collaboration, integrity, and compassion, ensuring the development, wellbeing, and safety of children, young people, and their carers through interventions—such as early help and family support—that remove barriers and empower progress.

Assessment and Intervention (A&I):

This crucial service manages incoming referrals, conducting assessments and short-term interventions for families where children range from pre-birth to 18 years old.

Core Functions:

  • Child in Need (CIN) support with up to three months’ intervention.
  • Section 47 Enquiries: Assessing and mitigating child protection risks in partnership with police and other agencies.
  • Transition to Family Support & Protection Teams for ongoing support if required—shifting cases to Family Solutions Early Help where appropriate.

Social Workers will oversee their caseloads, addressing needs based on Child Protection, CIN, or Looked-After Children policies, achieving permanency where applicable.


What You Will Need

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualification: Diploma or degree in social work (Equivalent: CQSW, CSS registration).
  • Registration: With Social Work England as a registered Social Worker.

Key Capabilities:

  • Demonstrable alignment with Professional Capability Framework (PCF) and Knowledge & Skills Statement (KSS).
  • Ability to apply emotional intelligence, analytical thinking, and adaptability when confronting challenging family or social situations.
  • Adequate IT competence for case recording and relevant systems.

Flexibility & Mobility:

  • Ability to work atypical hours, including evenings/weekends to meet families’ timeframes— applicability for demand will be flexible.
  • Essential: Valid driver’s licence and ability to operate a vehicle, arrange transport for clients, and respond to emergency needs—access to multiple operational zones within Essex is required.
