Fixed-Term Contract (9 Months) | 37.5 Hours Per Week Location: St Mary's Hospital, Warrington

Social Worker Assistant – Mental Health & Rehabilitation Service

About the Opportunity

Are you passionate about supporting some of the most vulnerable individuals in society? St Mary’s Hospital in Warrington is seeking a Social Worker Assistant to join their specialist mental health and Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) rehabilitation service. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you'll play a pivotal role in improving the independence, wellbeing, and community outcomes of adult male service users.

This fixed-term contract is ideal for those interested in gaining experience within mental health, social care, and safeguarding—including familiarity with the Mental Health Act 1983 (Amended 2007) and the Care Act 2014.


About the Role

Key Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of a Registered Social Worker, your duties will include:

  • Adhering to the General Social Care Council’s Code of Practice.
  • Supporting service users, families, and significant others through assessment processes.
  • Liaising with external agencies (e.g., Local Authorities, NHS Trusts, Probation & Primary Care) to align care plans with individual needs.
  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding, child welfare, and public protection standards.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Completing DWP/Welfare documentation (admissions & ongoing benefit matters).
  • Assisting with financial planning, housing support, and liaising with housing agencies.
  • Coordinating travel/visiting arrangements (patients, families, carers).
  • Maintaining detailed patient records and clinical documentation.
  • Supporting quarterly Carers’ Forum and annual Carers’ Engagement Survey.
  • Assisting in implementing and evaluating recovery-focused services (e.g., patient forums, befriending).
  • Operating collaboratively in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
  • Undertaking administrative duties (safeguarding, IT systems).
