Job Introduction

We’re recruiting two Social Workers (Level 3) to join our Children’s Services at Milton Keynes City Council.
- 1x Full-time Permanent
- 1x Full-time Fixed Term (12 months)
This is a rewarding role where you’ll work with children, young people, and families, ensuring their needs are understood, supported, and safeguarded.
The Fostering Team works across Children’s Services, fulfilling Milton Keynes City Council’s statutory requirements under:
- Children Act 1989
- Fostering Regulations 2011
- National Minimum Standards 2011
The team recruits foster carers to provide good-quality foster placements, ensuring children remain close to their local networks.
The team works closely with colleagues in the Corporate Parenting service.
Scope of Work
Responsibilities include:
- Recruitment, training, and support of mainstream foster carers
- Assessment and support of kinship carers
- Private fostering and special guardianship
You’ll hold a full and varied caseload, including complex cases, taking professional responsibility for delivering high-quality social work to improve outcomes for children.

Role Responsibilities
A successful candidate will:
- Hold qualified social work credentials (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, or Degree in Social Work)
- Be professionally registered with Social Work England
- Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development by staying updated with legislation, policy, and practice, using reflective practice
- Effective clear, concise, and accessible communicator, skilled in written reports and presentations
- Ability to build positive collaboration while challenging where necessary
- Skilled at resolving complex issues to find appropriate solutions
- Exhibits resilience and adaptability to manage rapid changes and perform effectively under pressure
- Proven ability to analyse complex information and make sound decisions, even in high-risk situations
- Demonstrates strong time management and capacity to deliver outcomes within stipulated deadlines

Critical Requirements:
- Full valid UK driving licence
- Access to transport (personal vehicle recommended)
Candidates must comply with pre-employment checks:

- Provide Enhanced DBS check (unless currently registered with DBS Update Service)
