Salary: £43,222 – £45,982 (inclusive of £3,283 market premia, pro rata for part-time) (Pay award pending)
Working Hours: 37 hours per week

The Family Help Service has an exciting opportunity for a full-time social worker in Coalville, who will play a pivotal role in delivering a high-quality Child in Need service for children and their families.
Our vision is: ‘Right support at the right time.’ We work holistically with the entire family, offering practical help, building on family strengths and community support to improve daily life and drive positive outcomes for children and young people.
About the Role
The Family Help Service provides intensive, early and timely support to families moving from Targeted Early Help to Child in Need, aligned with the recommendations from the Independent National Review of Children’s Social Care and the Family First Partnership Programme reforms.
This role focuses on:
- Stronger, consistent professional relationships with families
- Faster and more intensive support to ensure families receive the right help at the right time
- Trauma-informed practice to boost resilience, parenting capacity, and confidence
- Strength-based approaches to unlock family and community networks
- Ensuring children stay safely at home where possible—or, if not, remain with wider family and friends
To facilitate this, we offer:

The service is evolving, so this role may undergo periodic reevaluation as implementation progresses.

Essential Criteria
To apply, you must have/be able to demonstrate:

A qualified social worker status, holding:
- A degree in Social Work approved by Social Work England
- Equivalent qualification (CQSW or Diploma in Social Work)
- Registered with Social Work England
- A full, valid UK driving licence (with ability to use a vehicle for duties or ability to convert a non-UK licence)

Post-qualification experience with:
- Children and families
- Knowledge of childcare legislation and Local Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures, particularly in:
- Child protection, Child in Need assessments
- Private law cases
- Care proceedings

Ability to apply:
- Theoretical underpinnings of social work (policy, models, and ethics)
- Safeguarding principles in practice
- Cultural competence (racial, religious, linguistic, and diverse backgrounds)

Experience with creative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed methods, including:
- Collaborative ways of working with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Preference for the Signs of Safety methodology (ideal)

Proficiency in conducting high-quality assessments, including:
- Child and family assessments
- Conference reports
- Risk assessments
- Private law reports for court

Ability to:
- Prioritise workload effectively (e.g., duty rota, court commitments, Section 47 enquiries)
- Work under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations
- Analyse complex information to make sound decisions
- Report contextually and regularly to senior management
