Job Description

Are you a qualified Social Worker with an interest in continuing healthcare?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time qualified social worker to join our Adult Social Care Continuing Healthcare Team based in Eastbourne.

East Sussex is a fantastic place to live and work, with its rolling hills and countryside, green walks to small coastal towns which have had a recent revival. We are looking for an exceptional Social Worker to come to work within our Adult Social Care Continuing Healthcare Team.

We have excellent relationships with local partners working in partnership with the NHS Sussex All Age Continuing Care. Together we work collaboratively to ensure that people are assessed for their needs in line with the Continuing Healthcare framework to determine funding eligibility.

To carry out the role, you will need a detailed knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005), the Mental Health Act (1983), Equality legislation, and the Deprivation of Liberty safeguards. You must be able to implement this legislation in your daily practice. You will also be expected to carry out the County’s section (42) safeguarding duties to protect and mitigate risks to the clients we serve. You will assess clients in line with our other statutory duties such as section (9) assessment under the Care Act (2014), using a strength-based, outcome-focused approach. Experience of court of protection work would be an advantage in this role, however, training is offered to successful candidates.

You will need to be a registered social worker and will have obtained a social work qualification, either a C.Q.S.W, DipSW, a Degree, or Master’s in Social Work. Social Workers holding Assessed and Support Year Employment qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Please view the job description and person specification for more information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
