Vacancy for a Social Worker in the Central Safeguarding Team

A vacancy has become available for a Social Worker in the Central Safeguarding team which is based within the Civic Centre in Bridgend. The team structure consists of a Team Manager, Deputy Team Manager, two Senior Social Work Practitioners, 6 Social Workers, and 3 Assistant Social Workers.

The department has worked hard to ensure that workloads are manageable with an equitable distribution of cases and there is also a strong level of managerial support available at all times, supporting staff to grow and develop within their practice.

Bridgend's Child and Family Services interventions are underpinned by a strengths-based approach within a collaborative and supportive environment. In 2023, Children's Social Care launched the 'Signs of Safety' social work model which underpins all of our practice in Bridgend County Borough Children's Services.

We are a reflective organisation that continuously builds on its strengths and is committed to the principle that the most effective way of improving outcomes for all children, young people, and families is through the provision of accessible, universal services. Protecting children, young people, and adults deemed to be at risk is considered to be the core responsibility of all council employees.

Our targeted Family Support Services provide a continuum of services ranging from early help to intensive provision to families with complex needs including the development of two new services which offer support to children and families where there are exploitation concerns and supporting to manage adolescent behaviours and crisis. We also have teams who offer expertise in relation to Children with Disabilities, Care Experienced Children, and Young People aged 15 and over who are entitled to Leaving Care Services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
