Vale of Glamorgan Community Mental Health Service for Older People – Job Opportunity (Grades 8, SSCP 26-30)

About Us

The Vale of Glamorgan Community Mental Health Service for Older People is a multidisciplinary team combining local authority and health professionals with specialist expertise in mental health disorders. Our team includes:

  • Social Workers
  • Approved Mental Health Professionals
  • Psychologists
  • Psychiatric nurses
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Psychiatrists

We conduct weekly meetings to address complex cases collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting.

Our service delivers secondary mental health care for adults living with:

  • Dementia
  • Mental ill health (over 65s)

Focusing on recovery-oriented treatment, we empower individuals through a strengths-based approach, ensuring they achieve tailored personal outcomes. We collaborate closely with service users and their families to promote safety and well-being within their communities.

About The Role

Job Title: Adult Mental Health Care Assessment & Liaison Officer (Community Mental Health Service for Older People) Grade: 8 (SSCP 26-30) Pay Range: £37,280 – £40,777 Full-time (Pro Rata available: £19.32–£21.14 per hour) Hours: 37/hour, Monday–Friday Location: Llanfair Unit, Llandough Hospital

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct eligibility assessments for adults requiring mental health services.
  • Empower service users to make informed decisions and safeguard their independence.
  • Provide information, advice, and signposting to alternative support services when needed.

About You

Essential Requirements:

✔ Core Experience:

  • Experience working with vulnerable adults due to illness, disability, mental health issues, substance misuse, or age-related frailty.
  • Experience with mental health services and adults diagnosed with mental health disorders.

✔ Assessment & Practice:

  • Proven ability to assess adult service users and carers.
  • Strong understanding of how illness, disability, and mental health/age-related frailty affects individuals, carers, and families.

✔ Legal & Safeguarding Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with:
    • Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014
    • Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010
    • Mental Capacity Act 2005
    • Mental Health Act 1983
  • Knowledge of adult safeguarding issues and procedures.

✔ Education & Registration:

  • Qualified Social Worker with a recognised degree/diploma in social work (e.g., Degree, DipSW, CQSW).
  • Registration with Social Care Wales.

✔ Other:

  • Good standard of general education.
  • The role requires an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
