Qualified Social Worker – Children’s Single Point of Access (C-SPA) Role

Location: Woking office (no travel to visit clients required) Contract: Full-time, permanent (36-hour week) Salary: £43,633 - £46,624 per annum (pro-rata) Flexibility: Option for structured 9-5 working pattern


About the Role

We are inviting applications for a Qualified Social Worker to join the Children’s Single Point of Access (C-SPA) team at Surrey County Council, where you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding local children and families.

Based at our Woking office, this role ensures primary contact with families reporting concerns, triages referrals, and applies threshholding to determine appropriate intervention. You will collaborate closely with multi-agency professionals to create cohesive and proportionate responses.

Key Aspects of the Role

This is a 9-5 qualified social work position with no routine client travel, offering greater flexibility compared to traditional assessments. Our practice emphasizes family-centred, widening approaches, underpinned by:

  • The Family Safeguarding Model, striving to enhance areas of the parent-child relationship.
  • Collaborative partnerships with education, police, and health to provide holistic support.
  • Motivational interviewing techniques to empower families to address challenges.

You will build foundational casework, informing whether a child or family requires higher-intensity professional support, or may benefit from plans at a preventative level.

Requirement for the Role

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Social Work England (with qualified status)
  • Substantial experience in UK statutory children’s services

Core Skills

You will demonstrate success in:

  • Threshold decision-making with your professional judgment.
  • Independence in multidisciplinary working with public bodies (e.g. health), voluntary sector and neighbouring teams.
  • Analytical approach: Prior experience handling complex Safeguarding matters (consider your application essays).
  • Sound knowledge of legislation and best practice (CSE, Child Safeguarding, government guidance).
