Soft Services Supervisor – The Howard Centre, Welwyn Garden City

Contract & Details
- Full-Time: 42 hours per week
- Shift Pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off (0700–1900)
- Pay Rate: £16.57 per hour
Role Overview & Purpose
The Soft Services Supervisor ensures security and cleaning services are delivered to ABM’s exacting standards, maintaining the site management centre and all public areas (including service yards, car park, loading bays, common areas, and back-of-house spaces) in a secure, safe, and consistently high-calibre state that exceeds client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Management & Operations
- Support operational HR activities (recruitment, retention, and development of the security team)
- Manage staff attendance and absence records in accordance with company policies
- Set objectives for direct reports, applying consistent performance frameworks
- Conduct regular audits to uphold high cleanliness, safety, and security standards across the estate
- Oversee training, development, and retraining of staff, including customer service training
- Lead formal inductions and site-specific training for new starters
- Identify training needs and maintain accurate site records
Quality & Compliance
- Perform quality audits to ensure service delivery aligns with ISO 9001 requirements and exceeds expectations
- Support security audits, highlight noncompliance issues, and drive resolution
- Prioritise incidents and security alerts, ensuring key personnel remain informed

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Cultivate excellent relationships with clients, suppliers, and partners
- Engage visitors and tenants with a first-class, customer-focused service
- Maintain a professional, pleasant, and courteous demeanour while upholding high standards
- Assist third-party contractors and visitors in adhering to site policies and procedures
Emergency & Administrative Responsibilities
- Respond effectively to emergencies (e.g., fire, bomb threats), ensuring the Centre Team is informed
- Complete company-mandated training (e.g., via ABM University Portal)
- Perform additional duties as directed by line managers
Required Skills & Experience
✅ Valid certifications required:
- SIA Door Supervisor license
- SIA CCTV Surveillance license
- (Preferred) IOSH Managing Safely
✅ Essential skills:
- Outstanding organisational abilities (balancing priorities & workloads)
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Independent work ethic with clear accountability
- Calm under pressure with a steady, professional demeanour
- Adaptable & flexible approach
- Team player with a collaborative mindset
- Effective report writing and presentation skills
- Sharp observational skills
✅ Preferred experience:
- Cleaning industry background
