Soft Services Supervisor

Soft Services Supervisor – The Howard Centre, Welwyn Garden City

Location: The Howard Centre, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6HA Contract: Full Time, 42 Hours per Week Shift Pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off (0700–1900) Pay Rate: £16.57 per hour


Role Overview and Purpose

The Soft Services Supervisor is responsible for delivering security and cleaning services to ABM’s exacting standards. You will ensure that the site management centre, all public areas (including service yards, car park, loading bays, common areas, and back-of-house spaces) are secure, safe, and clean, consistently exceeding client expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Team Management & Development

    • Support site management in operational HR activities, including recruiting, retaining, and developing the security team.
    • Manage staff attendance and absence records in line with company policies.
    • Set objectives for direct reports using company procedures while applying consistent approaches across the area of responsibility.
    • Conduct regular training sessions, including customer service training, and identify training needs.
  • Service Delivery & Quality Assurance

    • Carry out audits to uphold high standards of cleanliness, safety, and security across the estate.
    • Perform quality audits to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 requirements, surpassing client expectations.
    • Prioritise and address incidents, keeping all key personnel informed.
    • Oversee formal inductions and site-specific training for new starters.
  • Operational & Emergency Responsibilities

    • Ensure timely responses to security incidents and events, including fire and bomb threats.
    • Maintain excellent communication and motivation for all team members.
    • Complete performance reviews and Toolbox Talks in accordance with company policy.
    • Assist with security audits, highlight noncompliance issues, and drive action towards corrective steps.
    • Respond efficiently to emergencies, ensuring the Centre Team remains fully informed.

  • Client & Site Engagement

    • Build exemplary relationships with clients, suppliers, and partners.
    • Engage with visitors and tenants, providing first-class, customer-focused service.
    • Adhere to uniform requirements and uphold high standards of personal grooming.
    • Assist third-party contractors and visitors, ensuring adherence to site procedures.
  • Compliance & Development

    • Complete mandatory training via ABM University Portal and other core requirements.
    • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of training, performance, and site procedures.
    • Adapt to additional responsibilities as needed by the business and client.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Licenses & Certifications

    • Valid SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licenses
    • Preferential: IOSH Managing Safely certification
  • Technical & Personal Skills

    • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to balance priorities and workloads.
    • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and assume responsibility.
    • Calm under pressure with a steady, professional demeanour.
    • Adaptable and flexible approach to work.
    • Sharp observational skills.
    • Effective report writing and presentation skills.
  • Preferred Experience

    • Background in cleaning operations (preferred).
    • Experience in facility or security management (beneficial).
