Role Title: Software Architect Duration: 6 month contract Location: Telford. Hybrid, 2 days per week onsite Rate: up to £644 p/d Umbrella inside IR35 Clearance required: NPPV3 is essential

Role purpose / summary

The Software Architect will be part of the Integration Portfolio DevOps team, responsible for designing and guiding delivery of modern, cloud‑native, microservice‑based solutions across a broad range of client delivery groups and client portfolios.

The role focuses on defining scalable, reusable architectural patterns and working directly with engineering teams to build secure, reliable, and operable services that accelerate integration delivery across the portfolio.

This is a hands‑on architecture role, embedded within a DevOps model, combining design authority with active contribution to delivery.

Key responsibilities

Define and evolve architecture for cloud‑native, microservice‑based solutions across the Integration Portfolio. Establish and promote reusable patterns for: API and event‑driven integration Microservices design and decomposition CI/CD and DevOps pipelines Observability, monitoring, and operational readiness Work directly with engineering teams to design, build, and deploy services on cloud platforms. Ensure solutions meet non‑functional requirements including scalability, resilience, performance, and security. Provide technical leadership to resolve complex delivery challenges across multiple teams and services. Drive consistency and reuse across delivery groups, reducing duplication of patterns and approaches. Define and maintain architecture artefacts, standards, and decision records. Support transition to live service, including operational models, supportability, and handover.

Focus areas

Desirable experience

Experience as a Software or Technical Architect in modern, cloud‑native environments. Background designing and delivering microservices‑based architectures. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure) and containerised deployment models. Solid understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated delivery. Experience designing and governing APIs and integration patterns. Ability to work hands‑on with engineering teams and unblock technical issues. Experience delivering shared platform or integration services across multiple teams. Familiarity with event‑driven architectures and messaging platforms. Experience working within the client or other regulated environments. Exposure to developer enablement, platform engineering, or internal product teams.
