About the Role

Become part of our SWARCO team in this Senior Technical Leadership position focused on the architecture of MyCity, our cloud-based mobility platform. This role combines hybrid work with regular access to our Basingstoke office.

We’re looking for a Software Architect with extensive technical vision and expertise to design, guide, and evolve our cloud-native microservices infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

  • Define cloud-based microservices architecture for the MyCity platform.
  • Shape technical strategy and provide architectural leadership in collaboration with development teams.
  • Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of distributed systems.
  • Develop and maintain architectural roadmaps, blueprints, and enterprise-scale design patterns.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable cloud-native solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and direct technical decisions across global development teams.
  • Drive adoption of software design best practices, including:
    • AsyncAPI, OpenAPI, and JSON Schema for API specifications.
    • Containerisation, cloud platforms, and related deployment practices.
  • Address complex technical challenges and ensure seamless integration with live infrastructure systems.

Day-to-Day Work

  • Collaborate with engineers on solution reviews and architectural overviews.
  • Define software standards, governance processes, and technical feasibility frameworks.
  • Evaluate and support the integration of cloud services into production environments.

Profile & Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Software Architect or senior technical leadership role.
  • Strong C# and .NET 5+ expertise (minimum 2 years).
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Cloud-native architectures.
    • Microservices design patterns.
    • Distributed systems at scale.
  • Experienced in defining architectural principles, including API design and system integration standards.
  • Practical knowledge of:
    • MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
    • Containerisation/Orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
    • Modern deployment methodologies (CI/CD pipelines, IaC).

Strengths & Skills

  • Analytical and strategic thinking with problem-solving flair.
  • Proven ability to influence technical direction across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Clear and effective stakeholder communication.
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
