Role description At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Software Compliance Officer to be based at customer’s site in Woking.

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

To lead and manage software compliance activities for Automotive's vehicle programmes, ensuring adherence to software update regulations. The role focuses on achieving compliance with UN R156 (software updates) and the Software Update Management System (SUMS). The Software Compliance Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement Over-The-Air (OTA) update strategies for two new vehicle programmes, ensuring regulatory approval and maintaining compliance throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

• Establish and manage OTA update processes and procedures to meet regulatory requirements for new programmes

• Coordinate with engineering, IT, and programme management teams to ensure compliance requirements are integrated into vehicle development

• Prepare and submit type approval applications and supporting documentation to relevant approval authorities

• Conduct risk assessments and manage software update risks and vulnerabilities throughout the vehicle lifecycle

• Develop and maintain the Software Update Management System (SUMS) in accordance with UN R156 requirements

• Support homologation activities and liaise with certification bodies and regulatory authorities

• Monitor evolving regulations and industry standards, advising on impacts to current and future programmes

• Maintain compliance records and audit trails for regulatory inspections • Support internal and external audits related to software compliance.

Knowledge / Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline

• Proven experience in automotive software compliance, type approval, or homologation activities

• Direct experience with UN R156 (software updates) and SUMS regulations

• Experience with OTA update systems and software lifecycle management

• Understanding of automotive software development processes

• Knowledge of automotive functional safety standards (ISO 26262) is advantageous

Technical & Analytical Skills

• Strong understanding of automotive software architectures, ECUs, and vehicle networks (CAN, Ethernet, etc.)

• Knowledge of software update risk assessment methodologies

• Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable compliance strategies

• Experience with software verification and validation processes • Understanding of secure software development practices and secure boot processes

• Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities

• Ability to manage multiple compliance workstreams across concurrent programmes
