Software & Control Systems Engineers

Software & Control Systems Engineers – Defence Business

Locations: Bristol, Derby or Solihull

Rolls-Royce is seeking Software & Control Systems Engineers to support a range of current and future opportunities across its Defence business. Our Software & Control Systems teams develop the innovative engineering solutions that ensure safe, reliable and high-performing aerospace products. From requirements and architecture to development, verification, and deployment, these specialists drive the full engineering lifecycle.

What You Could Be Working On

The role involves contributes to:

  • Control & Monitoring Systems – Designing and implementing systems that enhance performance and situational awareness.
  • Software Architecture & Development – Developing robust embedded and safety-critical software solutions.
  • Systems Modelling & Simulation – Advancing digital engineering through advanced modelling techniques.
  • Verification & Validation (V&V) – Ensuring designs meet stringent regulatory and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

Ideal candidates will typically have:

  • A degree in Software Science, Controls/Electronics Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in software or control systems engineering, particularly within regulated or safety-critical environments.
  • A strong understanding of:
    • Systems architecture and integration
    • Model-based design techniques
    • Problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Benefits from safety-critical experience, though entry-level applicants with transferrable skills will be considered.

Eligibility and Logistical Notes

  • Security Clearance: Rolling Royce will support the application for necessary Security Clearance. To work for Rolls-Royce Defence, candidates must:
    • Be a UK national or, in exceptional Ministry of Defence (MoD)-approved cases, a dual national.
    • Comply with all relevant security requirements.
  • Assessment Process: Some locations may require an online aptitude assessment as part of the initial selection.
