About The Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Software Developer to join their dynamic team on a 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension. This role is based in Portsmouth, requiring 3-4 days onsite per week, with standard working hours of 37 per week. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative agile environment, contributing to the development of advanced management systems for a new satellite project. The primary focus will be on designing, developing, and testing software components, with a strong emphasis on microservices architecture and automated testing practices. This position offers an excellent opportunity to be part of cutting-edge aerospace technology, working alongside a talented team of professionals dedicated to innovation and excellence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical background with relevant experience in software development. Essential qualifications include proficiency in Java Core (version 8+), Spring Boot, and the Spring Framework, with a good understanding of developing RESTful web services over HTTPS. Experience working within a microservice architecture and familiarity with distributed systems are highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid grasp of software design patterns and agile development methodologies, along with experience in CI/CD delivery techniques. Proficiency with source code management tools such as GIT and issue tracking systems like Jira is required. Knowledge of UML/SysML modeling using tools like Enterprise Architect will be advantageous. The candidate must demonstrate self-motivation, excellent teamwork skills, and the ability to communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders. A current SC security clearance is mandatory for this role.

Responsibilities

The Software Developer will be responsible for contributing to all phases of the software development lifecycle within an agile Scrum environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing high-quality, efficient code aligned with project requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborating with team members to design, implement, and test new features for satellite management systems.
  • Participating in sprint planning, task estimation, and daily stand-ups to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including UML diagrams and system specifications.
  • Implementing automated testing strategies to ensure software reliability and performance.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical insights, and ensure the delivery of robust solutions.
  • Maintaining knowledge of emerging technologies and integrating innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes.
